How to Develop a Reading Habit

Reading is the best thing you can start this new year. It can help you to become a better person and can improve many aspects of your life.

If you are already a reader, but you are not regular, these things will help you.

1. Pick a Book

You should always pick a book that you really want to read. I will suggest you too read fiction books because they are just long stories and really easy to understand so you will not get bored.

  • Choose a fiction novel in English or in your mother tongue so you don’t have to learn a new language.
  • The book should be short because as a beginner you will not survive a 500 – 1000 page long book and you will quit reading.

2. Daily ritual

You have to choose a time when you do nothing but sit and read a book. Making it a daily ritual will help you to involve in reading properly.

  • fix a time in the morning or in the night, whichever suits you and read for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  • Don’t do anything else while reading, like using a mobile phone or thinking about the past.

3. Fellow Bookworms

You can follow some bookstagramers or you can subscribe to some booktubers for getting new recommendations to read.

  • You can find bookstagramers on Instagram or Facebook, they post pictures of books with a short caption.
  • Booktubers are those who make videos about books.

These things are for those who use social media, so they can surround themselves with books everywhere. If you don’t use social media, great, then you can READ IN PEACE.

4. Making lists

You can make lists of books you have read, you will read and you are currently reading.

  • There are many apps for this work, but Goodreads is the most popular and easy to use on both desktop and mobile. You can also post book reviews and make new bookworm friends here.
  • You can also make these lists in a notebook

Making a list will help you to manage how much books you have been reading.

5. Why are you reading?

Deciding your goal for reading will help you to be on track.

  • You might be reading for fun or entertainment or we can say for education, make that clear first.
  • Choose a solid reason to read example: I am reading to become a better person, I am reading to be happy, I am reading to understand ancient Vedic Spirituality. Choosing a reason to read will make you a reader.
